Sona was born on March 1, 1959 in Hanford, California, to Raymond Sr. and Lucia Garza. Sona lived in Hanford all her life serving the community by working with both Hanford Elementary and Kings County Human Services.

In 1980 Sona graduated with an Associates of Arts Degree from College of the Sequoias. Throughout her career she exercised her finest attributes: love, compassion and generosity. Her career began at Kings County Juvenile Center as a youth counselor. She continued her desire to serve youth within her community through her nine-year service to Hanford Elementary School District. As a bilingual aide specialist, she spent many years at Lincoln Elementary School, the very same school she attended as a child. Her path led her to Kings County Human Services where she assisted families in need of health and financial services for the last 16 years. In addition to her career, Sona raised two children: Aleah Juhnke, 33, and Aaron Juhnke, 30. Sona was also a faithful member of Koinonia Christian Fellowship for over 30 years where she served the Lord, led marriage classes, and attended several women's groups.

Surviving members of her family include her mother Lucia Garza; daughter Aleah Juhnke and son Aaron Juhnke; spouse Richard Juhnke; and brothers Raymond Garza and Robert Garza. Predeceased relatives include her father Raymond E. Garza Sr..
